About 15 years ago (Maybe longer), the Government started paying them NOT to grow Tobacco... So, they took the money and started growing other things....
I remember towns shut down during Harvest and the daily Tobacco auctions was reported on the 6PM Local news and on front page of the newspapers.... It was the South's version of the stock market. Hold on to your harvest until the prices get high enough and then Sell Sell Sell before they go back down!

was in Harv's garage stall most of the day (just outside it bout 8 feet away) they were monkeying all day with that track bar---lotsa work under there.
watched the race from the owners suite---buncha hall of famers watchin the race---sad to say I didn't recognize any of them....they were pretty much in their late 60's and 70's
got a quick handshake from the man as he cut through the garage to avoid the barrage of folks mugging him,,,couldn't bring myself to ask him for something...actually felt bad for him...folks are relentless,
ill put up a few pics

well that was an awesomely rotten ending to spending 4 days in Darlington. Don't know what really happened at that last 14 lap run. Although throughout the race, (before the pit crew started sucking again, except for the big one losing 11 spots because of the air gun) he would have a very quick 10 car lead, but the bigger leads didn't come until 30-40 laps. So Kevin was either tire managing better or his car just didn't fall off as bad as the rest of the field. (God was he killing em early) so all the pit crew crap a side (i know, I know, he would have been in 1st, but...) he pitted from 2nd and came out 2nd on the last stop and just didn't have the better car for a 14 lap run. Oh well, chaulk up nu
