After, reading the 2018 participation guidelines, I started to wonder about states... Personally, I think the Cup guys should be allowed to race. But, I think the 2016 series highlights the biggest issue with the Cup drivers and running the dominate manufacture (ie Toyota).
In 2016 season:
- JGR (Toyota) won 19 of the 33 races
- KB had 10 of those wins
- Xfinity regulars won 10 races
- Xfinity regulars NOT driving a Toyota to win a race? 1 (x3 - Elliot Sadler)
In 2017 (19 races in):
- Chevy has 7 wins
- Ford has 5 wins
- Toyota has 7 wins (KB has 3, EJ has 2, DH has 1 and RP has 1)
- Xfinity regulars have won 5 races so far
There are only 4 Fords running in the Xfinity series. Which is better than Dodge! They have 1. But! Toyota only has 6 and 3 of those are JGR cars.
AND
Last weeks winner was Ryan Preece, driving a... (You guessed it!) ...JGR Toyota!
- Only his 2nd start for JGR (of 3).
- His first start for JGR, he finished 2nd.
- Has 5 starts in Cup (2015) and zero top 10's
- Has 38 starts in Xfinity (Over 4 Years) and has 1 win and 3 top 10's
I guess what I am getting at is this: You take the 18 or the 20 team, and they are a threat every week. You stick a Cup guy in those rides and it is almost a given that they are going to win. Takes the fun out of the entire race. On the flip side, you put Kevin out there in a modest team and he races... right there with the Xfinity regulars.
