I don't feel bad about the rain, the starting spot, or the pit stall. Rodney has dug Kevin this hole by being a complete and utter idiot the last 2 weeks. Going into the Chase, we kept hearing him say "we don't have to win we just have to be smart"...well, NOT pitting when a tire is smoking badly halfway through the race at Chicago is NOT being smart. NOT pitting while running 10th under caution when we are 6 laps short on fuel at a track where long green runs are the norm is NOT being smart. You can talk about fuel pumps and average cautions and all that other nonsense all you want, but the truth is that Rodney's poor calls in the most crucial of situations has put Kevin and the whole team so far behind the 8-ball that it is unlikely they will recover. Oh, and I blame Jill and the others who decided to nuke the message board because it's all been a big, fat, steaming pile of s#*t ever since that fateful decision. YEAH!!! The funny thing is, if he would've made it on fuel, we'd be singing Rodney's praises. He made the correct call to try to win the race, IMO. Kevin saved more than enough fuel to make it, the gas man just didn't get it full enough. Hate on Rodney all you want, but he made the correct call to win that race. Execution just happened to bite us in the end. Move on from it, and do what we have to do tomorrow.

Sounds like no more practice They might get 10-15 minutes in, but that's about it.

Execution just happened to bite us in the end. Move on from it, and do what we have to do tomorrow. No he didn't. The correct call was to come in when you are in 10th place and 70 laps to go and make sure there are no questions on fuel. They stated he was 6 laps short after his last stop - so it WAS in question. He didn't have to try and win the race with that type of gamble - too much to lose, not enough to gain. Running in 10th, he was 2 points out of the top 12. With the car as good as it was, he certainly would have moved up into the top 5 (and possibly contended for the win). He would be sitting in the top 12 right now. It was a stupid, stupid gamble and it likely cost us the season.

I have to agree with Nate - they played it overly risky with the best car in the field. The right call was to play it safe, maybe you still win the race but if you don't, you've given yourself the chance top five your way into the next round this week. Now you have basically one result that will get the job done.

If they had played it safe, I am super confident they would have finished top 5 - and given the bottom of the Chase field, I bet a top 15 this week would have got them through to the next round. The risk of running out (which, again, they stated they were 6 laps short when they left pit road the last time) was way too high vs the reward for stretching the fuel. Now, THIS week, the risk would obviously be worth the reward - but where they were sitting in points at that moment, it was irresponsible not to pit, get fuel and fresh tires, and remove some of the variables that could cause you to lose a race.

Agreed!! Im not sure why some people still think the right call was to stay out!Rodney wanted to pit but ended up calling him in after he passed pit road! That tells me he new they couldn't make it and he also said they were 6 laps short! He should admit they messed up and move on, He is still a great crew chief that just made some bad decisions when its going to hurt them the most! Hopefully he can make a miracle happen tomorrow and put it all together one weekend.

I wouldn't be shocked if he won tomorrow, but given the constant errors they have made all season, I wouldn't bet on a win because it seems unlikely with this team.

I agree again, if u look at my comment in the New Hampshire thread you'll see i voted for greg4fan as the strategist lol...all joking aside they study trends of races all the time maybe they should get one. They have tire specialist, engine specialist etc. Problem i see with that is, you still need one guy calling the shots, would a strategist and crew chief argue on what to do? Sometimes drivers and crew chiefs have enough problems making decisions.

I have faith in Rodney, Kevin and the entire #4 team. Looked good in practice and they are focused.

To quote the greatest band of all time: (and I believe this holds true today at Dover)
"You can't always get what you want You can't always get what you want You can't always get what you want But if you try sometimes you just might find You get what you need"
