aric, not to hi-jack but Im going to Darlington for labor day---pretty fired up. Thinking of staying in Hartsville as opposed to Florence--not much for massive traffic or hoopla---any opinions or suggestions? Looking forward to some southern cooking--cant get it up here in the northeast-lol Thanks In my opinion, that's a great idea. Not just for avoiding most of the traffic, but it also puts you in the parking lot behind turns 3 and 4, which is where I prefer to park. Of course I normally get there about 8AM, so traffic is minimal at that time anyway. Being from the area, I know the backroads and can easily navigate my way back to my Mom's house in Florence without getting in most of the traffic. Also, from my experience, that parking lot is easier in and out going back west down HWY 34 towards Hartsville. If lodging is too expensive there for that weekend, you may also want to check out Cheraw, it's not that much further. However, avoid Society Hill! Not a place you want to be for very long...

very good! thanks for the heads up!---friggin hotels are booked already-- gotta love it! Another tip to consider if you find something in the Hartsville area... When exiting the parking lot. Do whatever you have to do to stay in the far right lane. People aren't paying attention and end up going a quarter mile and do u-turns so it blocks up the left lane quite a bit...

The only suites I'm familiar with are in Turn 3 (inside and outside). The outside turn 3 suite used to be the former Race Control Tower that they've remodeled.
I remember going inside of it once when I was a kid during an actual race while it was used by the officials. My Step-Dad knew somebody... I only remember how good it felt to walk into the Air Conditioning...

Looking forward to some southern cooking--cant get it up here in the northeast-lol Thanks Take a RV and camp track side for a few days, lol. Just a suggestion. I don't know how you attend races now, but sometimes the cost isn't that much more especially if you plan on at least 2 hotel nights. That's how we go. My friend rented one a few years back, a class c, 30ft. $149.00 for the 3 day weekend. Anyways, just a suggestion. I believe we'll be there this year too. We haven't been to Darlington in about 18-20 years. God it's been awhile. Looks like about 10 of us are gonna skip the Bristol night race this year and do the Southern 500. None of my other race friends have been there and they want some old school racing. So I think it'll be a go for us. Either way you get there, be safe, maybe we'll hook up for a cold one.

Plan on seeing some sites in the area and the driving to Darlington Sunday morning. Any thoughts, ideas, or advice? Since you are staying in Charlotte, I would make plans to visit some of the race shops while you're in town. Research and determine which ones are not open on Saturdays (Stewart-Haas is one of them) and hit them first on Friday.
