Fan voting opened up this morning. I've gotta say, I think there are some on this list that aren't "Hall of Fame" worthy contenders. I don't have anything against Kulwicki, but a HOFer?? I don't think he was around long enough to be considered. Hornaday Jr.?? Being good in the truck series is not HOF worthy either, unless it leads to success in the other premier series also... Ricky Rudd - Only year long award won was Rookie of the Year in 1977... Finished 2nd in championship points once... There's a lot more on this list that I don't think fit the mold of what I consider Hall of Fame Contenders. The only Clear Choices (in my own opinion) are Hyde, Parsons, Squier, Wilson and Parks Anyone have any other opinions? www.nascar.com/halloffame.html

I considered Byron, but only 15 career starts.... ?? even tho he only had 15 starts,he won 2 poles and 2 races with 9 top 10's and a cup series championship, technically 2 championships '48,'49,and he was the very first cup series champion. I guess you could say he is,stat wise, the greatest driver in nascar history

IMO I think the NASCAR Hall of Fame is going to really have to reconsider the size and how often they enshrine classes soon. I already think there are drivers in the Hall that I wouldn't classify as Hall of Famers and I think it just has to do with the type of sport. Guys have long careers, even those who never amount to much. Michael Waltrip went a decade without a win and still landed a top-tier ride. Turnover is so low it results in a very small amount that were the best. It isn't a team sport where you have some of the best ever playing on a regular basis. NASCAR gets a generational talent every once in awhile (ie. Johnson). Starting with five on an annual basis was good to allow the hall to fill up since it was new, but now 1-2 on an annual basis would make more sense to me. Otherwise it won't be too great of an honor soon. As it stands it seems like a championship in the Cup series is guaranteed to be in the hall in the future. That puts guys like Keselowki and Kurt Busch in... guys who have never won anything big other than the championship. I don't agree with that. I do however think that impressive resumes across any of the series do deserve to be in. I wouldn't have a problem with Hornaday getting in because he absolutely dominated the trucks for so long. It will be interesting to see if they choose to make it tougher to get in or if they quickly water down the exclusivity of the hall.
