I have always look forward to this restricted plate races in the past, but sense Kevin has moved to SHR, we just have not had that winning speed like we had many times with RCR. With RCR for a lot of years was frankly our only shot to win was at a plate track which was sad but exciting. Glad we are passed that, but I wish we could lead laps again and stay up front. Every time I watch the 4 car going around the track he always seems to be a half or car length back at times from the car in front of him. I don't know what the fix would be. I only hope we can run up front Saturday night and turn things around. We have not had a dominate car in a while. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't say it's totally the car. This drafting style/package is more like the packages from 2001-2007. The main difference is side draft has a bigger effect, and the air bubble between cars. I don't think Kevin has quite mastered this style. He seemed to do really well in 2009-2010, and parts of 2011 with the tandems. Granted, he had a pretty stellar horse for both races in Daytona in 2010, and both Talladega races. He did lead some laps and stay towards the front at Talladega a couple of months ago. For me, it's just really hard to say if it's all car, maybe partly driver, I'm not sure.

I see what you are saying and I will agree just a little. Like I said when you are in the corners and the car is always laying back to me just seems the car is slow. If you watch the Gibs cars or even the Hendrick boys. They seem to be able to almost push at anytime and when Harvick is in front of them they easily make a move on him. We are always slow on qualifying day and I don't care what anybody says. When the car is slow by it self you are slower even in the draft. The draft just makes it less obvious.

Harvick's knowledge and skills of late are incredible! Pair that up with his current equipment, team, a crew chief that can set up a car and we've seen some dominance. Harvick races smarter these days and seems to have lost his aggressive style he had early in his career. Although I like the wisdom, matured, methodical aproach Harvick races with these days, Id like to see some of his aggressive nature come back. I have no confidence with Harvick on restarts anymore, im not sure if its gear choice, his new setups, I dont know. But I miss the king of restarts, the Ron Hornaday approach. Harvick doesn't seem to take the chances like he once did. At plate races recently, he doesn't make those risky moves dicing around like other drivers, that and no one seems to ever work with him always leaves him hung out to dry. My opinion thats the only thing Harvick is missing lately, he needs some of that aggression back! Sure, I like him racing smart, saving tires, will get them on the long run, all that is good stuff!! But sometimes I wish we could see the Hammer down slicing through the field making it happen Harvick! GET IT DONE THIS WEEKEND 4 TEAM!!!!

Well looking at it from that approach makes sense in a way but still doesn't change the fact of the speed of the car. I am 100% believer in the vet drivers I think are more scared Now than ever on the plate races. The Dillion wreck last year scared me and I know it's always in the back of these drivers minds. Other tracks I don't think many are scared, but these plate tracks get crazy at times and who knows. If Dillion car last year would have went hood first in the fence instead of the bottom of the car I believe it could have been 2001 all over again. These cars are safer than ever but not death proof, and I believe that is taking for granite more today than ever.

Starting 21st tomorrow
Rodney was really happy with the car in practice (I assume in race trim) so we'll see.

I think it a couple things... I think its part motor and part driver. What I have noticed, is Kevin tends to play in the back of the pack... I think he has a car that can get to the front, but its that "stay in the back and out of trouble mentality" that is killing him lately. I think he waits WAY to long to "make his move" ... its like it takes longer to get to the front than he plans for... It seems like every he gets close to the front, Joey gets behind him and shuffles him out of line... Kevin really need to so returning those favors! Its that give and take.... and Kevin seems to give give give...

Here's my take. Kevin won't leave that bottom line. He gets shuffled back to 5th or 6th in line on the bottom then bails and goes to the back. He then uses the middle or high line to get back to the front where he goes to the bottom line and repeat. When he does get the lead he doesn't work both lanes like the good plate racers.

Harvick had 23 cup wins at RCR, only 3 (points races) were at at plate races. The fact is plate races aren't about who has the best car a lot of times. It's mostly about staying out of trouble and being lucky. Being in the right place at the right time.
