Anaheim 1 Supercross is tonight! Go Dungey! Make it 78 wins for the Diesel at Anaheim 2. Closing in on McGraff for 3rd all time, and 3 straight Supercross Championships. Roczen goes back home to his Mommy with a broken arm.

Now that was some racing at the Georgia Dome tonight. The Diesel survives and leads the entire race for his 33rd 450 SC win of his career while stretching out his points lead.

Supercross has started to spark my interest, but my knowledge of it is zero. What do I need to know when watching these races? For me, Motocross is what I grew up doing. Some great Champions have come out of MN over the years. Donnie Shmit, Ryan Dungey, Jeremy and Alex Martin to name a few. Supercross is the indoor form of Motocross. More of a Circus than Motocross. These drivers are the best in the world. They have proven it by winning Motocross Des Nations events over the years. There are 2 classes during an event, 250cc and 450cc. These are now 4-stroke engines that used to be 125 and 250cc classes in the 2-stroke days of old. The 250cc class is like the Xfinity class. The 450 likened to the cup class. In Supercross, the main races is were they payout and give the trophies. You have up to 3 races to make the main. Ideally you want to make the main in your 1st heat and rest up for the main. In motocross you have 2 Motos a day. The best average across the 2 Motos wins the trophy. The best names in Supercross are Dungey (won last 2 450 titles) Roczen (a German) is probably the fastest rider, but he broke his arm in a crash 4 weeks back, then there is Tomac, Musquin (Frenchman and Dungey's teamate) Seely, Anderson, Reed and a few others. The riders don't last as long as your typical stock car driver. You have to be in peak physical condition to win and compete in these events so you typically have a 10 year window if your lucky. Great racing, just give it a couple of events, you will see.

The Diesel wins his 3rd of the year and takes the points lead by 9 with one to go last night!
Dungey will win his 3rd straight Supercross Championship next week as Tomac proves he is a head case.

Tomac did what he had to do to try to make up for his choking while briefly running the red plate. He literally tried to plow Dungey off his bike 3 times while they battled for the lead. Tomac purposely tried to slow the front of the field down to try to get others to pass Dungey after having punting him time and time again when Dungey was passing him for the lead. Tomac clearly knows now that its hard to stop a Diesel no matter how many dirty tactics he attempts. To a fault, Dungey is too nice a guy to stoop to this level, and these tactics.
I used to respect Tomac. However I lost all respect when he whined about how team orders allowed what happened in New Jersey last week, while at the same time he choked himself with both hands while leading the championship with one to go. Team Red Bull KTM did the smart move to maximize Dungey's points day. Obviously this move payed off big. Too bad for Kawasaki. Should have hired a driver with a spine!
And if you think the 450 main was nuts, go back and watch the 250 main. Osborne won the championship by coming from last place from a crash at the start by passing points leader Savatgy near the end of the of the last lap with a block pass that KO'd Savatgy, knocking him off his bike!
Anyway, all hail the Diesel!

I am certain his broken neck and Roczens nasty broken elbow helped him make this decision as well. I won't be surprised if he takes a year off and comes back with a new manufacture. But if its the end of the road, he went out on top. Pretty cool.
