Too many rules.
The rules are contrived and stupid.
They took too much DF off and nobody can really do anything.
Discuss.

Too many rules. The rules are contrived and stupid. They took too much DF off and nobody can really do anything. Discuss. I agree with what you said about the rules. Spoke to a friend at Penske last week who was giving us a private shop tour. They found something that was within the rules that worked for their cars. It had to do with cutting the air out from underneath the car and prevented lift. NASCAR told them they couldn't run it during the all-star race, even though it was within the rules, and they were junk. They let them run it in the 600, and they were a good bit better than they were in the All-Star. From talking to him, there's a lot of monkey business that goes on behind the scenes with NASCAR and the rules. Why tell a team they can't run something, even though it's within the rules? As far as losing its appeal? Not for me. I think the racing this year has been great, with the exception of Charlotte. I still get excited about going to the races, and watching them at home. The stages haven't been as intriguing as I thought they'd be, but they do add a little something, and I'd prefer to see them stay than to go away. For me, as long as there are cars on the track racing, I'm satisfied.

Too many rules. The rules are contrived and stupid. They took too much DF off and nobody can really do anything. Discuss. agree - it's testing my resolve big time. Not just the rules, but the favoritism is blatant. Toyotas are the favored group. I remember a time when if one manufacturer was clearly way ahead of the others, they would even it out - not anymore since about mid-2015. But these rules are brutal. The only rule they've made in the past 10 years or so that I actually think improved the racing is the double-file restarts. Pretty much everything else has been lame. The Chase, Playoffs, Segments, taking away people's rights in the parking lot, etc. It's all been pretty bad. I think the racing continues to suffer with a few exceptions of course. Last week and this week were brutally boring. Most of the time you have 1 driver get in front and leads the majority of laps. Kevin at Atlanta, Truex at Vegas, Larson at Cali, Pouty at Martinsville, etc. And it's because it's so hard to pass now with all the DF off. And, while we've had some surprise winners, it's been a smaller group of drivers up front most of the season - the divide is huge - the top 11 drivers have led 150+ laps this season - the next highest is Ryan Newman with 36, and after that you get to 16, 13, etc. That's 11 drivers always up front. Last year you had 14 drivers with at least 1% of laps led. In 2015 it was 13 drivers...point being, you really might as well run an 11 car field at this point. Then the segments...good God! Manufactured cautions completely screw with the race. Are there any other top sports that reward you for being in 10th 1/3 of the way through a game. Football? Nope. Basketball, Baseball, Hockey? Nah. Individual sports like Tennis or Golf? No way Jose. It's so friggin gimmicky it makes it tough for me to get into a race with the extra planned cautions and pointless points for anything other than winning a segment. So you get NO points for leading a race now, but you can get points for limping around 10th all day? It's become quite a joke - if I didn't love racing so much I'd be done - which I very well might be when Kevin hangs it up. France can literally go to hell and take his stupid contrived pointless changes with him.

I'm wondering how these stage/win points are going to work in the playoffs. They carry on... and it is so lopsided right now! So are the playoffs going to be a 2 car race? What's the point?
Sad that Harvick and Danica lead the blue oval group to a high 9th and 10th place finish.... only two fords in the top 20! 9 of the ford finished 29 - 39th! Ughh!!! Another year were Harvick has to have a PERFECT run to even come close to winning. Fearing its not going to happen!

the rules have been extremely altered since 2015 to best fit one driver.it was all predictable while they were doing it and now looking back its even more obvious.

I dont have an opinion on the staging---yet
I do mind the overtime line crap---dump that--I prefer unlimited restart blood baths!
Double file restarts are great....
I like the sticky stuff races
Less aero effect to pass works for me regardless of how they achieve it--- basically alot of passing is great.
I was watching some old darlington races on you tube... an absolute ton of passing back then----even the old daytona beach races..just riveting!
I will stick with Nascar if they bring back the trailers....that big tent blows!!! They never have anything you want to buy! Bring my girls I knew by name in the trailer back!!!! (private rant)
PS screw Bruton Smith!!!!

I think Nascar taking downforce away from the cars is the WRONG WAY. Give the horsepower back like in 2014. Best racing in years. Yeah they will go faster, but the corners can not hold the speeds so the cars slow down. It does 2 things. 1) More power equals a better chance to pass and get runs. 2) More downforce less the car is affected by air which gives the faster cars the edge. The way it is now. The field is too equal. Less downforce takes the advantage you might have away.

This year has been pretty garbage overall from my perspective. The last 2 weeks were prime examples - Dover I get because it always sucks, but Charlotte is usually one that I look forward to.

The racing was pretty damn good last year as well. I wasn't complaining, to be sure. Just tough to watch these guys struggle so much with aero AND low DF. If you're going to take the downforce off, you've gotta get cars off the ground and take away some clean air advantage.

I really dislike the overtime line.
What I hate even more is "freezing the field" and the damn scoring loops. Go back to the start/finish line. Whoever crossed the line first / second / third etc on the previous lap gets the spot. It mostly happens in plate races, but I hate having to see "this is who was ahead when the caution light came on" replay to tell me who wins.
Double file restarts....best thing they ever did.
