I also thought this story was interesting and confirmed what most of us already knew. Ford is behind the game, especially with their aero. sports.yahoo.com/ford-teams-continue-struggle-answers-220007899.html Stewart-Haas Racing also has woesWolfe’s counterpart at Stewart-Haas Racing, Rodney Childers, crew chief for Kevin Harvick, admitted to “Tradin’ Paint” on Thursday that his team is pretty much in the same boat as Team Penske. “I hate to even say it but I agree with (Wolfe),” Childers said on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. “On one side of me, I feel that we’re in trouble. I don’t know if we will get caught up to where we need to be. “I feel l like it’s time that Ford is going to have to push hard and come up with a new body and do something to get us back in the ballgame from the downforce side of things.” Childers would like to see NASCAR get more involved in the disparity he believes has developed between Ford, Toyota and Chevrolet. “I think it’s time for NASCAR to take all the cars to the wind tunnel again and figure out where we’re all at,” Childers said. “If there are people that are way off, other teams, then we need to figure out how to make it more equal. You hate to get into that again.” Even so, Childers remains confident in his team, given that Harvick is the highest-ranked Ford driver (fourth) in the Cup standings. “The downforce stuff, we’re not way off,” he said. “I feel like we’ve kind of had the best Ford week after week here lately. We’re pushing hard and we’re not going to give up by any means and I think everybody will see that in our performance. “But on the other hand I do feel like it has hurt us a little bit more and we just have to figure out how to dig through it.” Ups and downs are cyclical Childers also mentioned the irony that it wasn’t all that long ago that SHR and Harvick were being looked upon as the kings of performance (albeit in Chevrolets), much like Truex and Larson are today. “I look back at the 2014 and 2015 seasons and everybody used to complain about us being the fastest car every week, leading all those laps and always have a shot at winning,” Childers said. “Looking back, I don’t even know if we understood then exactly what we were doing to be that much faster than everybody else. “I think it’s the same way with (Truex and Larson) right now. They’ve done a good job, have their cars where they need them to be, their drivers are doing excellent jobs, the pit crews are doing a good job.” But there’s still the bottom line. “We have to get faster race cars,” Childers said. “Our pit crews have done excellent, Kevin’s done excellent, we just have to be faster when we unload off the haulers. Hopefully, we can get caught up a little bit.”

Switching to Ford definitely cost Kevin a shot at the championship last year and very likely will cost him a shot at a championship this year. With him starting to get up in age and not knowing how many more years he will run, this was a terrible decision for his career in my opinion - really wished he would have bailed out for the 5 ride when it became apparent they were switching.

If there is any place that Ford are not at a disadvantage... They have the Motor for Indy. With NBC ignoring Kevin and their love affair with Kyle, I am prepping for a parade and ALOT of KB talk. NBC's producer that handles NASCAR has to be a Kyle Busch fan!

It really appears that this team lacks self-awareness to correct the problems. TO ME, their main problems are: 1) Rodney's lack of ability to manage a race & use strategy to put us in a position to win, and 2) The constantly poor restarts we get which makes it next to impossible to make up the ground we lose in the first lap after a caution. This article is a little demoralizing to me. Either Kevin is just not throwing anyone under the bus (which I hope), or they just don't realize how massive those two issues are. www.stewarthaasracing.com/kevin-harvick-2017-indianapolis-race-report/

Damned if you do... Damned if you don't! That's how I see it. He was close enough to the lead that he needed to do as the leaders. The only thing I might have like to have seen was a dive onto pit road early just before a stage end. But with Kyle and Truex out, I really though he had the best car. But then the restarts just kill him every time! He could NEVER get away and the few times he did get in front of Kenseth, Kenseth would just motor by him on exit and down the straight.
The parity between manufacture is broke. About the only place the Fords can hang, is on a long straight. But even then, I didn't see that much yesterday... not like I did at Pocono. The only reason we had so many Fords finish up front, was be cause the "middle strategy" worked and all the Fords were running in the middle of the pack.

Yes, I agree it is clear that the Fords are lacking in some areas, but I dont think its under the hood. Until this team stops all the self inflicting things that cost them chances to win races, who cares if they're lacking in the aero department. After Busch & Truex wrecked, we were the next best car! I honestly thought the horseshoe fell our way & we were going to steal one. I feel like Harvick should have slammed the door on Kenseth and took the lead, clean air was everything. The calls from the box didnt work out either.
Monday morning quarterbacking is easy to do yes...but they continue to shoot themselves in the foot! Before aero or anything else, thats the first thing they need to fix in my opinion. We've watched this guy race for the last 18 year's, it just get frustrating seeing whats been left on the table. And my patience are running out because the time Harvick has left is running out too..
Get it together & go 4 TEAM!! Cross Pocono off the list!

The biggest problem I see every week is Rodney makes pit calls after seeing what everyone else does. If a top 5 car pits Rodney comes on the radio and tells Kevin to put this lap. Every week this happens. Rodney never creates his on strategy and when he does he throws it away. We are in the chase why are we not taking chances?

If they pitted with 42 to go they most likely win the race.

Nascar has just plain gone down hill and has ruined the racing. Blame Kevin, Rodney, Delana, Tony, Hass whomever you want. Nascar is the culprit.

Joe Gibbs Racing suspends two No. 78 crewmembersHmmmm... Looks like there is a rift between brewing between JGR and Furniture Row Racing. JGR is looking to do anything they can to get KB that first win! Just hope the 4 teams steers clear of that ticking time bomb!

Bailed out at which point? Or decisions? If he didn't move to SHR he would still be championshipless. If he moved to A$$dricks we believed he wouldn't be getting top priority with jj & jr there. They should have 3 wins this year including that early Atlanta race. I think with 3 wins, everyone's picture of them (including ours) would be 80-90% better and thinking we'd have a very good shot at the title.

Hendrick would have welcomed him over Kasey with open arms. That organization needs a talent infusion with Dale Jr on his last legs and Kasey being mediocre at very best. And how exactly should we have 3 wins this year? Atlanta and Sonoma make 2. I can't think of another race that we absolutely SHOULD have won. COULD HAVE? Yes. SHOULD HAVE? No.
