How did they put an extra lap on tires? I missed quals They didn't. Kevin went back out but didn't run the lap.

I am a little surprised they are not using the Texas chassis, but this one dominated Atlanta and was good at Homestead last year. All 8 teams that made it to Martinsville had to submit their homestead cars to NASCAR for pre inspection.

Correction, he was only about a tenth off the 78 in round 2. As much as I'm not happy with the way it turned out, ninth is better than twelfth or wrecking and going to a backup and starting at the rear. Perhaps some harvick gamesmanship??

17th in first Sat. Practice. He was quoted as describing the car as "terrible". Slowest of the 4 in 10 lap, almost 2 mph off the 11's 10 lap speed.
What's the backup car? Not too late to put the primary on the hook.
Frustrating that Rodney decides to run a 2016 built chassis.

15 min hold in happy hour to boot.
The ole confidence level is plummeting.

All 8 teams that made it to Martinsville had to submit their homestead cars to NASCAR for pre inspection. I understand the logic... but that puts us back to a pre-texas developed car. The things they learned at Texas were huge... After Kansas, I felt they were close but still not there... Texas they were there. I don't claim to know all the ins and out of a race car and a team. But the logic says they develop on a car the entire year... working hard to make them better. If its a downforce tweak, or a balance issue... what can they take from Texas and apply it to a car that has already been submitted to nascar? Just feels like we have one hand tied behind our back. But then they are best when their backs are against the wall! Go team 4!

Not quite sure I want to start anywhere close to Hamlin... He's in this got to prove a point mode. He's going to be a bull. I'd don't trust he'll race anyone clean tomorrow. Just hope he races Truex and Busch like everyone else.

This piece of shit is so far off where it needs to be they might as well run over it with Bigfoot and start again.

Now they are saying the 4 is a bit better than all of them on the long run, so Hell, I don't know...

Watched practice. Truex, Busch and Kes all got out onto the track early. Truex's fast lap was his first and the first for everyone. Was painful to watch Kevin being held for 15min. He first lap was slower, but they said that his 10 lap avg was in the top 4. Really praised the 4 car for being really impressive on the long run. Noted that everyone was way faster at the beginning of practice. Kevin also ran the entire first run on the bottom/mid where the others moved to the wall later in the run. They also felt that he would be even faster if he'd moved up the track like the others. But they were trying to see how long they could run the bottom. He's second run was "terrible tight", but then Kevin said later that he had move the brake bios all the way forward and never moved it. TV guys said that that would make the car tight. So with one good run and that running being better than other 3 after lap 12. I feel good! I did not come out of that practice as feeling like the 4 was behind. Source: NBCSN Broadcast

They got tooled by everybody they're racing, have the worst pit selection and put an unnecessary extra lap on the tires because the crew chief is already in momo mode. It's disappointing all around. I liked Kevin's interview, really looked sincere, he was fine with qualifying, P9, everyone was acting like he qual in the 30's. He'll be just fine.
