I don't think it's much different than Ford sponsoring the whole championship weekend in Homestead, or when Chevy used to sponsor the Richmond race.

It was enough when SHR switched to Fords! So, I've had to accept that... Toyota's filled that spot. LOL! I used to have a Avalon... until my son totaled it. Now its a Honda van and a Dodge Ram truck! Go figure!

Go figure! I had a hard time as well when SHR switched to Ford, so you're not alone lol. I've never drove anything other than a GM product, and probably never will. Toyota makes some good stuff though. I came really close to buying a Tacoma a couple of years ago, but I got the better deal on the GMC Canyon. I don't regret my decision at all - great truck.

My actual dislike for Toyota has more to do with the drivers than the brand... Before everyone gets tweaked, let me explain. A few years ago, I read a report about the most ticketed car and the author made a big deal about where the Toyota Prius landed...top 20. And then discussed why. He made an interesting conclusion. Awhile after, I was in the Bay Area and was on a highway that suddenly came to a crawl... One of my buddies said, "I bet this traffic jam is due to a Prius!" I kid you not it was. After that, I was returning from a business trip in a company rig. In a company rig when I am Interstate driving, I always drive the speed limit, with cruise control set. It's a truck so it maintains the speed. I came upon this Prius... loaded to the roof. And I passed him. Next thing I know, he's passing me back. Got a run going down a hill. Pulls in front of me and the slows down. So I passed him again. We do this for 15 miles. I never once come off 75mph. Anyway, after several leapfrogs, he actually cut me off so I couldn't pass him... I gave him the international WTH gesture. After that, He took off! I never saw a Prius move that fast! That driver fit the conclusions of the article to a T. Oh... the authors' conclusion... basically because a Toyota Prius is a fairly expensive car for its size, the majority that purchase a Prius have more of a, "It's all about me" personality.
But then again, with that logic... the other day a guy called me an Idiot when I drove up to a Stop sign... I guess I didn't let him J-Walk across the road. I guess ALL RAM truck drivers are horrible drivers too! LOL!

I guess they get the same perception that BMW drivers get. I'm with you on the certain drivers that happen to drive for Toyota in NASCAR. I've never liked Kyle Busch, but I do respect the fact that he can flat-out drive. Denny is definitely not one of my favorites, Erik Jones is okay, and I do like Suarez, Truex...I've liked him ever since the Chance 2/DEI days, so he's still tolerable in my book.

In fact... the article was about that very fact... Prius had just topped BMW for similar type violations and he was comparing Prius drivers to BMW drivers. LOL! I'm going to age my self here ... but I used to race Papyrus's NASCAR games online. I go into this newgroup once that was talking about racing with Dale Jr and Martin Truex. If my memory is right... Dale Jr gave Truex his first shot at NASCAR and it came out of the friendship they made racing online. KB and Denny ... we agree! Jones and Suarez ... I try to like, but I tend to buck when the media makes a driver out to be the best ever. Joey Logano ... Eric Jones... Suarez... all came out of the dominate JGR camp. I used to say a monkey could drive one of their cars to victory. Truex ... He drives a Toyota! It's worse than Harvick driving a Ford! Just can't do it! LOL!

Much like you, I used to race the Papyrus games online as well. I got my start with NR2002, but really got into it via NR2003. I raced in the ASCORS racing league as well as DMP (Dale Jr's league) for a short time. Raced against MTJ, Jr, Keselowski, Truex, Shane Hmiel, TJ Majors and that whole crew. Oh to go back to those days...

Some of the biggest long distance phone bills I ever racked up! Hawaii was Papyrus's first "online" racing. Dial-up modem to a server. Oh, the days. I mostly raced head to head against a buddy. We would run 20% races ... practice for 1 hour and then race. Our series was 10 week/races. The last race was always a full length. One series we finished with a full-length bristol! Oh, the memories! Not a single Toyota in sight! (LOL ... my Toyota jab!) My online nickname back then was LTOThud... I switch when I started playing Halo against my son... figured it fit... because I Go Thud was pretty much all I was managing to do!

There were so many great drivers in that league at the time: Ray Alfalla, Kevin King, Derek Wood, Brad Davies, etc. I never raced on Hawaii. I honestly didn't discover online racing until NR2002. I did race single player on NR1999 Edition, NR3, NASCAR Heat, and NR4. I started running some Openspeedway stuff at the plate tracks, then I met a guy named TBR Gator that got me to try setting up my car and running Texas. At that moment, I was hooked on trying to learn all of the tracks. I ran a few leagues in NR2003. One being ATKAY (Are The Kids Asleep Yet) late at nights on Friday/Saturday. I remember having the old Logitech Formula Force (yellow) wheel at that time. I went on to race in the TVR superspeedway league, which was a TON of fun. I discovered the Volker Hackmann setups and found I was actually really fast with those, and wound up joining ASCORS and running very well and winning a few races. I think at this time I had one of the Black Logitech Momo wheels which was great for its time. I also attempted the TSW Online 500 one year, but got crashed out in my heat race by an intentional wrecked. I said some things I shouldn't have said and got booted from the event. I have a lot of friends now that I've met through online racing and have made a lot of connections in NASCAR through it as well. Did you ever get into iRacing?

By the time iRacing came around I was too busy with kids and too poor to keep my computer up-to-date! Speedway races... I was decent...I remember my last one too... Like it was yesterday. I was leading... lap1 and Steve Parked it on the backstretch coming off turn 2 at Dega. Took out the entire filed in a bad warp! Oh the names I was called! LOL! I think I ran a few races in the AYKAY league or one like it. It was a group of older guys most seemed to be in their 30s, most had kids and understood the idea of a good race and respected others. Best finish was 10th at Darlington. I used a old MS Flight Simulator yoke and a hand-made set of gas/brake pedals... I still race... just Forza 7 / couch/ split screen.

I've had a few of those moments lol. Speedway racing on NR2003 was a lot of fun, especially with the BR and TR tracks. I raced them A LOT in NR2002, that translated to me being pretty good when I got to NR2003. I even won $700 from a one-off 500 mile event at Daytona. I remember taking that money and buying an Xbox 360 lol. I can't even imagine racing with an MS Flight Sim set up, that's crazy! My first wheel was the Logitech Formula wheel, then I graduated to a Logitech Momo, then a TSW. I got into iRacing back in 2008 when it first came out, and raced for quite a bit. I even raced a couple of season in the NASCAR Peak Antifreeze Series, but it really took up too much time as it was essentially the MLG of sim-racing. I haven't raced in about a year or so, but I'm thinking about getting back into it. I have the computer as I still play things like Battlefield, GTA V, etc., I'd like to get a high-end wheel and pedal set this time around.
