Monkeys off this back! With Kevin's road course abilities, the speed he has this year... I say we see another win!

That would be nice. They've thrown at least 3 races away already this year. Regardless how many we've already won, leaving wins for other drivers to take advantage of is got to be getting to them. It got me a month ago.

SHR top 3 in 5 lap average in 1st practice ...Clint, Kevin, and Kurt Sounds like its pretty much the same 2nd practice... I know Kevin had best 10 and 15 lap averages. AJ had the best 5. But they also commented on the rest of SHR being right there at the top of the chart for 2nd practice.

Cole said they were actually suppose to pit and truex messed that up. Good race though. Of course a caution would have been nice but...

Harv said his brakes started to go as the race went on and that caused the handling/tires to start to fade as well.
My hunch is the 78 was always going to win even with perfect strategy by the 4, but obviously had a caution fallen real late the advantage would have swung back in our direction. That's the unknown of road course racing. Last year it worked for the 4, this year it didn't.

Just like last year, our only true competition at Sonoma was the 78 and they blew up mid race last year.

If the caution had come out after we pitted with 20 or so to go, we win that race going away. I think it was our ONLY chance to win as the 78 was simply better than us the 2nd half of the race and had closed significant ground when we pitted with 37 to go and was going to pass us. So I don't even think perfect "strategy" would have beaten him. Our best chance was the "lucky" strategy that we were forced into when the 78 passed us with 20 to go - and luckily Rodney had the wherewithal to immediately pit Kevin and put us in prime winning position IF any caution were to come out. So while Rodney did get snookered, we weren't going to win the race being on the same strategy as the 78 anyway, and by virtue of being snookered, we actually had a fighting chance to win if the caution comes out in the last 20 laps (which the average last caution was final 10 laps), so I kind of liked our chances at that point. I watched it, like most races nowadays, on DVR later that evening.

Funny thing about watching it. I think the last time I watched a race live I was there!
