A crash occurred on the 7th lap of this race today. A horrifying crash that involved Robert Wickens and Ryan Hunter Reay. Wickens was hurt worst as he tore down the fence at 200mph. He was alert and awake in the helicopter thank God.
Scary.

Broke both legs, an arm, and injured his spine. Even with the safety improvements the past few years, those cars just seem way unsafe. I don’t know if it would have helped in this case, but I’ve always thought they needed a roll bar directly over the drivers head and a windshield/enclosure (like a fighter jet). Didn’t someone die at pocono a few years ago because he got hit in the head with debris? If NASCAR has done anything right, it’s safety improvements

Just read about it... Always hate to hear about Indy car wrecks... Praying he'll be ok!

It was a bad wreck. Camera was on Ryan's car looking Wickens car just as the wreck happened. Unbelievable that it caused such a bad wreck.

Yes, Justin Wilson died in Pocono a couple years back getting hit in the head by debris. F1 adopted the Halo this year which would have helped Justin.
Not sure what would have helped Wicken as he cheese gratered his car down to the driver cacoon on the catchfence at 200mph.
Nasty.
Glad he is on the mend.
