So here's mine (%>>$,] & #~%l) quote from George Carlin, the 7 words you can't say on TV... Yes I'm pissed at... The team for cheating The team for getting caught The thought of thinking if Kevin knew about it Nascrap rules How come some things are found during pre-race while others are found during post-race The inconsistencies in penalties That fact that Chad Knaus is right in that 75% of the teams do cheat On how hard it is to let this sport, sorry, way of life, go after 25 years They stopped 15 yrs ago running the commercial, "It's not just a sport, it's a way of life" They mostly did away with the souvenir trailers and got fuc#]~ fanatics That if Kevin doesn't make it to Homestead, I'll probably go riding instead That fact that I don't go riding enough as it is now
We'll I could go... oops
That Dale passed!!!
... on forever
There's my rant, and I still don't feel any better.

Honestly I feel like if they don't make it through on Sunday they deserve it to happen. For what it supposed to be a top-level team, their execution through the playoffs has been absolutely dreadful from the crew chief to the pit crew to the driver, and even at Texas when they didn't screw something up besides the one late restart, the car was so illegal it didn't even matter.
For Childers to do that, I don't really know what on earth he was thinking and now he's labeled the team, himself, and the driver as cheaters for forever, and that's unforgivable to me.
Also, I really don't want to read from him on Twitter about how he built the team and how sorry he is not to be with them. You did it to yourself, wear it.

Saw it on Twitter when the cheated up spoiler was worth .04% downforce. Said that it made little difference in winning and losing. If that is the case, it was stupid of the entire organization to even attempt something that blatant.

the worst part is how the sponsors might react...remember the Michael waltrip racing cheating fiascos? Something out of spec is one thing, but a completely different shop made spoiler is just blatant. disappointing. I do agree there are too many rules though

I think you guys are going a tad bit overboard with this. After researching and talking to some people in the sport, here's what I know:
Per Rodney's Twitter, the 4 team discovered at Kansas that other teams were messing with the decklid and the offset to get it further to the right, which is something NASCAR is not monitoring/inspecting currently (confirmed through my contact at Penske). At the time, it was too late to go back and modify what they needed to on the Texas car to conform with what the other teams were doing. The spoiler modification was a quick fix to essentially manufacture the same effect that the other teams were seeing from messing with the decklid. Competition in NASCAR has always been "Monkey see, monkey do." None of you can tell me that you wouldn't find some way to do what the other teams are doing after seeing it. The stuff teams are doing with the decklid is in the gray area, and is not currently a violation (again, confirmed through my contact at Penske). The 4 team tried to enact a quick fix, although an illegal fix, and got busted.
I don't fault the team at all. Rodney, Dax, Cheddar, and everyone else are doing what they get paid to do, and that's to do all they can to build the fastest car they can. Is it disappointing? Yeah, of course. Sponsors aren't leaving, the team isn't going to have a black eye for the rest of time. It's not all gloom and doom like most of you perceive things. At the end of the day, it's racing. Racing was built upon ingenuity and pushing the limits, while getting caught at times too. I'm proud to have these guys that work on the 4 car every week. They bring a damn good piece to the track week in and week out, and they work their asses off so we can cheer them on Sunday.

Yeah they were so far behind at Kansas they had the race won til the driver threw it away.
I find his explanation plausible but it was still a totally unnecessary risk. If teams have manipulated the decklid area and got ahead, and you can't do it yourselves, then you just have to bite the bullet. Manipulating the spoiler instead, which has always been against the rules, was stupid.
And yes they're always going to be labeled because thanks to them wins are going to start getting taken away for R&D failures. So have fun never celebrating after races and waiting til mid-week when you actually clear there.

No offense Greg but I'll still celebrate a win on Sundays and whatever happens on Wednesday happens. I still say nascar needs to shrink that fricken rule book and let the teams do what most of us want them to do, build cars and let it rip.

If it gets through and is never noticed, which it was very close to not being noticed, Childers is a freakin' genius. Everyone has the right answers and think they're the smartest person on earth after the fact. Again, it's not as dire as you're making it out to be. Kevin and the 4 team are not going to be labeled as cheaters. Not one single team in that garage can point the finger, because they're all doing similar things as well. The 4 team isn't the first to be caught doing something illegal, and they won't be the last.
