Seen this a few times since this crap started somewhere around 15-20 yrs ago. But haven't seen it in about 5 years. Going back to Jimmy's 5 in a row, I think I read if it was old school points he'd be down 2, 1 to Tony and 1 to Kevin.
The point change back then was the beginning of the (not so much) end today. I never even minded that year Kenseth won the championship without winning a race. He finished in the top 5 and 10 more than anyone else. It was all about Consistency. Even back in the late 80's early 90's, (I know a 10 yr spread, I can't remember the year and don't feel like googling it) Dale Sr won about 3 races to Rusty's 7 or 8 and Dale won the championship. I can remember Rusty complaining about it but always failed to say he DNF'd twice has many as Dale did. Again, it was all about consistency.

Even in non classic points I just noticed he’s only 5 points out of 5th place, which is basically best of the rest. Honestly really surprised me.
