Surprised there's not a thread up for this one already. Easily one of my favorite races of the year (I'm one of those weirdos who LOVES plate racing). Looking for Kevin to have a really fast JJ's Ford on Saturday night!

I went to this July Daytona race once even though I live very close to the track. It's ridiculously hot and humid, and I'm not an RP race fan to begin with. This will definitely be one for me to DVR and fast forward through at times from the comfort of my air conditioned home.

VERY hot and humid, and the race was rained out on Saturday night. Needless to say, my only Daytona experience wasn't that great. Hoping to go back for the 500 at some point.

They wouldn't do it in five trillion years, but they really should go back to starting this race at 10 or 11 in the morning and getting it in before the daily afternoon/evening rain starts.

Agree 100%. Larry Mac was eluding to that this morning on SiriusXM as well. I think it would work if they ran the race on the 4th every year to maximize viewership since that's a holiday for most.

We went back on Sunday as well, but left after the first rain delay. I had a meeting to attend at work on Monday, so staying much longer wasn't really an option for me. Rain seems to follow me when I go to races lol.

Well I could quote on all of your threads. Been to about 10 of these. Back 25 years ago when they used to run it on the 4th. It was always the Firecracker 400. Even went (didn't go) to the fired out year. When the northern Florida fires went thru and it was postponed to October. But all in all Saturday night is not that bad now.

One year it was about 90-95 plus. In the stands with no breeze. It was hard to watch the race with a dozen or so people passing out. Just in our section.

Yeah the 500 is great - though we occasionally get some rain outs with that as well. But at least you know you won't be suffocating in 95 degree heat with 99% humidity and 90% chance of rain. The July race is a total nightmare - I've turned down free tickets a few times in the past few years because it's simply not worth it. I've been to the 500 a few times and would certainly go again, even though RP races aren't really my jam.

I never went to the Firecracker. I only moved to Daytona area in 2002, so I missed the Daytona races before that. But those day races would have been brutal as well. Honestly, I try to limit my outdoor activities to as little as possible between June and September here in Florida.
